It is common in our lives to experience an empty tomb---the absence of the Lord. Furthermore, God sometimes allows such a situation, when it seems to us that He is not present, that He is not there, that He has left us alone.
Another absence of God is the one that the world brings us, trying to make us believe--God does not exist.
Anyway, we are now before the empty tomb of Jesus experiencing a huge shortage, some absence, which is hard to fill, whatever....
And this situation is often a great opportunity not to believe in Jesus dead in the tomb. Many Christians buried Christ and rolled the stone, creating a barrier, making us dead, because we are often dead in our SundayEucharist, our prayers, our relationships with others. Dead becomes a way of life.
But over these graves of ours, by the events of the previous nights, resounds with a vengeance, the prophecy of Ezekiel; ''Thus says the Lord God; Behold, I will open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people, and I will bring you to the land of Israel, and you shall know that I am LORD. I will give you my spirit so that you come back to life, and you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken.'' (Ezekiel 37: 12-14)
Last night the prophecy was fulfilled! Christ is risen and left His empty tomb open! He left it open so we could enter it!
God gives us the empty tomb today to yearn for Jesus of Nazareth. His voice, words and gestures. Yearn for His glance, the signs which He did, and for the hope that always filled the places where He had gone.
God wants to awaken in us a longing. Real and unfeigned, that comes from the desire to once again be able to see, meet and experience the living God..Jesus. To be able to go to Galilee, where Jesus is waiting for us with a blazing bonfire and much prepared fish, and invites us to walk with Him as Peter did. We can hear this question; ''Do you love me more?", and finally to hear the words, ''Peace be with you'', which the human heart so desires today and the world also.
Every day we have a chance to see that the grave does not close, because everyone has a chance to meet the Risen One.
Everyone has a chance to end it, to live,
It takes one yearning!
