We see people who are tired and hungry, but most of all we see people that follow Jesus. The main thing for them is to be with Him and to listen to Him. It should also be noted that they are people from the city. We can say that they are more civilized. For awhile they left everything to follow Jesus, and in these circumstances it is a miracle. Approximately five thousand men, not counting the women are fed. I think this is not the most import_ant thing, but that they are witnessing a miracle. They have satisfied everyone's hunger. But the best thing is that they are far from home, in the desert, and without Jesus they would die.
Of course, man can have everything while living comfortably in the city .Man can be happy and filled materially, but can never achieve things that are most import_ant in life. Without Jesus one cannot fill up their spirit. This is what Jesus wanted to show us today, that without the help of God, nothing can become great wealth. In our lives, even though it may appear that we have a lot, we really have nothing that belongs to us. Therefore, it is better to ask God to multiply what is really ours----our goodness and our love.
Just as the bread of the Eucharist is owned by Christ, continually being divided as spiritual food, we can also share what we own ---goodness and love, because nothing else is ours. The Eucharistic bread does not just give us a strong physical strength but a strong spiritual strength. We need to understand that thanks to the Eucharist, we can exceed anything that money cannot buy.
The people of today's gospel discovered the truth is not in the hustle and bustle of life, when they are busy, --but in a quiet and empty countryside. They understood the need for Jesus. Do we not still need Him today when we are so far away from everything that surrounds us, to understand the same thing?
