Jesus summarizes "salt" and "light", today, not accidentally. Nobody eats only salt because it is good and tasty, but if you add two dishes you emphasize taste. Similarly, nobody looks directly into the sun, because it is so dangerous....But light helps us to see our environment. Salt and light helps us. Helps only our senses -of taste and vision- and it is then swept into the background.
The gospel image of "salt" and 'Light" referred to by Jesus, are our reality- human reality. Salt and light remain in the service.
By our life we should enhance God's love to the world. Being like "salt", we can compare it to working with our interior. Everyone is good, created in God's image. Very often we need God's "salt" to liberate our goodness.
We need His presence, which like a "spice" brings out of us an even better taste- a Christian! which leads us to be a more expressive human being. Being like a "light" is giving testimony everywhere we are conversing about God, not just by words but through our rich Christian taste (our example).
"So that they may all see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
"Salt" and "light", has the power of transformation. Similarly, in God's things no external flesh shines, but internal power is the most import_ant.
Remember, we need this power not JUST for our needs, but first of all to radiate our goodness to those who are searching for God's love.
