Today is the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord. Christ left the earth leaving the apostles to care for us until the end. But, the apostles were thinking this was the second time they were abandoned and they felt sad.
The first time was when Jesus died and it was hard for them to believe in the Resurrection. Now, when Jesus went away to the Father, He promised that the Holy Spirit would be with them, but they did not believe Him because, they did not know the Holy Spirit before.
However, we know it all made sense after some time.
Today, we know that Jesus did not go away, did not leave the apostles, nor the church but began to BE. So that not only the narrow circle of apostles, but everyone in the future would experience His BEING. Although we would also like to understand how Jesus can be and is present on all the alters in the world but, also in every human being - it is impossible for us - our minds will never understand the actions of God.
Of course, human nature is to know all these truths, but not now. We have to wait.
Faith is not like mathematics, where even the most difficult task has a solution.
The Ascension of Jesus is a day where we do not have to speculate over the nature of Jesus and His miraculous signs. It is a day in which we begin our mission. Even though Jesus certainly can handle all the problems of man, He wants to give us a chance. He wants us to take responsibility for the Kingdom of God.
Therefore, we are also addressed by the words of the angles: why do you stand there looking up to heaven? Our task is not to be staring up at the sky. We cannot see heaven. We cannot waste our time. Like the apostles, we must go out into the world - the world will not come to us. We can take the gospel, download it from heaven on earth by our kindness and being a witness of Jesus.
