A pilgrim once said to Padre Pio, "Father, already I do not believe in God" . Padre Pio replied, "but God believes in you."
Throughout Lent, more than ever, do we wonder what our faith looks like? By putting a lot of effort into our faith is it becoming more alive and expressive?
Today, when we are witnessing the empty tomb, we must believe not only in the fact of the Resurrection, but we must believe that God believes in us and God defeated death for us.
Today, many people are looking for evidence of the Resurrection. For us it is also hard to accept this truth. Although the words of Christ, "do not be afraid", are addressed to us, our hearts and minds question this.
What would the world look like if Christ had not risen?
Even today, after preaching the gospel for twenty centuries life is so difficult. It still leads to wars and conflicts in many places in the world, and with no respect for human rights.
And, what would life be like if people stopped believing in God? I they stopped obeying the commandments? If, instead of forgiveness they applied the law of retaliation and revenge?
The Resurrection of Christ is a meeting, a celebration. Christ did not stay on the Cross. He came out of the grave, defeated death and appeared to the women and the apostles.
Even from His birth, when He became one of us, on His way to the Father, Jesus was with us, He only changed directions after the Resurrection. He goes the way of the Father TO us, in our direction., He comes to meet us. We just have to be on the same road to meet Him.
He believes in us. He believes that we can meet Him.
