In this beautiful celebration, Jesus is coming to Jerusalem. Everything takes place spontaneously without redundant planning. The people welcoming Jesus look happy. They break branches from the trees and place them on the road before Him. It does not look like a King is coming for a visit as it is lacking the necessary preparations but everything has a goal and for sure takes place under inspiration.
Although Jesus is riding on a donkey, He is still God, but also a Servant. Servant King of Humility. Maybe today, for these people and for us, it is easy to understand His Kingdom is not of this world. This Kingdom is difficult to find and understand when we try to figure out and identify with the people in power with the rulers.
His Kingdom is not just a place and power. Look once more at the crowd as to who is welcoming Him. Ordinary people? Any VIP's? Any celebrities? Any people of social position? These are the humble people, the sinners...the sick those in whose company Jesus felt happy. These people are happy as well which was expressed in their spontaneity. They were sincere because spontaneity does not allow thinking. Spontaneity and joyfulness do what the heart is feeling.
It should be in our life too. In accepting Jesus we must be more spontaneous and not calculating. Agreeing to Jesus should be a reflex of the heart and not a rational action with calculation gains and losses.
During the threshold of Holy Week, where we will be witnesses and participants in the Mystery of Faith, let us have the time and desire to ask ourselves is my faith still a reflex of my heart?
